Nobody knows exactly where Springfield is, but you’ve certainly heard of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

“The Simpsons” is now the longest-running scripted program in history and the envy of any comic-strip artist. An entire generation later, it’s still as clever and relevant as when it started back in 1989. These numbers will impress even more: over 600 episodes, airing in 100 markets, watched by nearly 200 million people. If that’s not proof of a cultish fan base, we don’t know what is.

So why is the show so wildly popular? Big kahuna James L. Brooks believes thinks it’s because they use universal themes, from the dysfunctional family to the mean boss, the school bully, and the plotting sidekick. Cowabunga, dude, the show’s got ‘em all, and they’re all very relatable and therefore, memeable. And excellent. * evil laugh *

Bart writing on the blackboard at detention. Grandpa Simpson yells at cloud. Homer boozing or crashing on sugar donuts. Comic Book Guy and the “worst episode ever”. In fact, “The Simpsons” is so memeable, it’s meta!

Love the Simpsons as much as we do? Then you can’t miss this new acrylic and mixed media painting workshop featuring Carla Scotto, “eco-sassy” designer and illustrator extraordinaire currently visiting from Melbourne. Spend an evening at Work-Shop Sydney and learn how to create memes out of your favourite Simpsons character. So you know there’s going to be a lot of yellow paint in class (#FED90F to be exact).

This is Carla. And we’re not promising anything but we hear Duffman might make an appearance. OHHHH YEAHHHH.
