Learn what makes your heart beat.
In this post, we introduce a new member of the WeTeachMe community: Li’l Crafters! They are a preschool-aged focused group based in Marrickville that offer process-based art, craft and messy sensory play classes.
What is process-based art and why is it important for children?
Process-based art is an activity that emphasises that “process of making art”. It is art done solely for the process, never minding what the end result could be. The classes offered at Li’l Crafters teach children to enjoy their time while they’re creating. If they end up with nice results, then that’s great, but it isn’t the focus of the experience.
With this type of approach, children are given the chance to explore without inhibitions, to ask questions, to find out how things work. They discover that they can be their absolute selves, they can make their own decisions when creating. Many fundamental skills are honed during this process including their fine motor skills, gross motor skills, coordination, to name a few.
There is no better time than the toddler stage for kids to experience process based art making, because it is at this stage that kids start to learn how to use materials and revel in the sensory feelings they get from using them.
