Cast Your Own Bronze Sculpture

Modern art space Quadrant Gallery offers its Melbourne premises for exhibitions and also regularly holds workshops by exhibiting artists in the contemporary art scene.

Starting on 2nd May, a workshop series featuring the medium of the moment - bronze and wax - will run over the course of four weeks. Participants will be introduced to the lost wax process, the preferred method for casting bronze objects. For at least 5,000 years. this technique has been used to produce a true representation of different civilizations.

In the lost wax process, molten metal is poured into a mold created by means of a wax model. Although many of the techniques and materials used in the art have been modernised, much of this fascinating craft is still as it was since the ancient times. Bronze lost-wax casting is particularly appealing to artists because it allows for intricate detailing in metal.

Once the course is completed, participants will be able to design and construct their very own bronze sculpture. The same approaches learned in class can be used to create other types of objects like jewellery or bronze elements fitted to other objects such as furniture.
